What does extreme sports travel insurance cover?
Extreme Sports Insurance will cover you for all the basics that you would expect to find in a standard policy. For example, cover for cancellation and delays, personal belongings, and emergency medical expenses. Emergency medical expense cover is crucial to have in place when taking part in activities that are deemed as ‘extreme’ or a ‘risk’ in case anything should go wrong that requires medical attention.
Here at DOGTAG, we offer varying levels of protection based on the sporting activities that you plan to take part in. Cover can change depending on exactly what type of extreme sport you plan on doing, so we would recommend checking through the different types of cover available and choosing the policy most suited to your activity needs.
What counts as an ‘extreme sport’?
Gliding, paragliding, hand gliding, canyoning, trekking, parascending, hiking, rock climbing, kite surfing, BMX cycling, the list goes on. To put it simply, there are absolutely hundreds of activities that can be considered as ‘extreme’, each with their own levels of risk.
Here at DOGTAG we have varying levels of cover, each determined by the activity being participated in and its associated ‘risk’. A standard DOGTAG policy may only cover lower-risk activities, so an adventure that is deemed as ‘high risk’ may need a higher level of cover.
Simply check whether your activity is included in the policy you’ve selected. If it’s not, check the upgraded policy to see if it’s covered there or give our team a call and they’ll be happy to help.
What should I look for in an extreme sports travel insurance policy?
When looking for an extreme sports policy you should consider whether it offers emergency medical expenses (most do), as well as cancellation cover should the trip not be able to go ahead, and possibly even protection for any equipment. Now, extreme sport policies may not include cover for your sports equipment as standard so it is important to understand whether you need to take out a policy extension to secure that type of cover, if you wish.
Does extreme sports travel insurance cover injuries?
All DOGTAG policies include coverage for emergency medical expenses, as long as the treatment reasons comply with the policy’s terms and conditions. Some activities also offer personal liability coverage in case you accidentally injure someone. Please review the activity list to see what is covered.
Are extreme sports considered ‘high risk’?
We know that most travellers who participate in extreme sports do not intentionally do anything daft or outright dangerous to put themselves at risk. However, when comparing those who participate in extreme sports activities on holiday against the normal risk associated with a typical beach holiday there is, of course, a slightly increased risk that our insurer must take into consideration.
Although, to put it simply, if an activity was too much of a risk, we simply wouldn’t insure it!
How much is an extreme sports travel insurance policy?
To be completely honest, the price of an extreme sports policy depends on a number of factors. For example, the age of the person wanting insurance, their overall health, the activity they wish participate in etc. There is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to travel insurance!
