If you purchase our dedicated COVID-19 Extension for an additional premium, you can enhance your cover to include;
- Cover to cancel if you, you’re travelling companion, or the person you are intending to stay with needs to self-isolate because of COVID-19, as required by a medical practitioner, a government body, or health authority
- Cover for missed departure if you miss your flight because you are required to produce a negative COVID-19 test result before exiting the UK and the result is delayed.
- Cover to cut your trip short if localised compulsory quarantine affects your accommodation, or for you to come home before new UK quarantine rules come into place.
- Emergency medical cover (including repatriation if medically necessary) if you become ill from COVID-19 in a place the FCDO advises against all but essential travel.

Can I upgrade my policy to include more COVID-19 cover?
If Yes, you can upgrade your policy to add the COVID-19 extension. To do this give us a call and we will assist you further.
Please note: There will be an additional cost for the COVID-19 extension. Cover starts from the date you add the extension, not from when you originally purchased your policy. This extension won’t cover any trips already started.
If I’m Stranded Abroad Due to Coronavirus and Can’t Return on My Planned Date, Will My Insurance Be Extended?
Your cover will automatically extend if:
- Your transport is disrupted or delayed.
- You’re hospitalised, need medical treatment, and can’t fly.
Is Coronavirus Cover Included for Domestic Trips?
Yes, our travel insurance covers trips within the UK. For single trip policies, there is no minimum stay requirement. However, for annual multi-trip policies, a minimum stay of two nights is required. This cover includes:
- Cancellation cover if you or someone on your policy tests positive for COVID-19 within 14 days before you travel and you need to cancel.
- Cover to return home earlier from your trip as a result of getting coronavirus and being advised to self-isolate by a medical practitioner, health authority or government body.

Which Countries Can I Travel To?
Travel rules can be different depending on where you live (England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, or Wales) and where you’re going. Always check the latest government advice and Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO*) travel advice before you book or travel. Click here for more information.

Our insurance only covers trips to places the FCDO says are safe to travel. If the FCDO advises against all but essential travel, you won’t be covered unless you have our COVID-19 extension.

What Happens If I Get COVID-19 While Abroad?
All our standard policies cover emergency medical treatment and repatriation if you get COVID-19 whilst abroad. You’re also covered for other emergency medical needs, as per the policy terms.
My Airline/Flight Has Been Cancelled Due To Coronavirus. Can I Claim?
If your airline or tour operator cancels your trip, they must either offer you new dates, give you a refund or provide you with an alternative offer.
Can I Change My Insurance Dates If My Trip Dates Change?
Yes, you can change your Single Trip insurance dates if your trip dates change. There might be an extra cost if you extend the duration, change the destination, or move the dates more than 12 months from the original purchase date. Fill out our online form or call us for help!
What If I Need to Self-Isolate Before My Trip?
If you test positive for COVID-19 up to 14 days before your trip and need to self-isolate, you can cancel your trip and claim for non-refundable costs, like accommodation. If you catch COVID-19 while on your trip and need to isolate, our COVID-19 extension covers extra accommodation costs and getting you home.
What If I Have to Quarantine While Abroad?
If you have to quarantine abroad due to COVID-19, our COVID-19 extension covers the cost of your pre-booked transport home if you miss it. We also cover extra costs if your hotel is quarantined by a medical or government authority.
How Much Does Coronavirus Travel Insurance Cost?
Most of our policies include standard coronavirus cover at no extra cost. The price depends on factors like trip length, number of people, type of policy, and any medical conditions. We also offer an extended COVID-19 cover for a small extra fee. Click here to get a quote.
How Can I Protect My Holiday Against Coronavirus?
To protect your holiday against coronavirus, get a travel insurance policy that covers different COVID-19 situations. Make sure you read the policy details so you know what is and isn’t covered. At DOGTAG, our policies include standard COVID-19 cover such as:
- Cancellation if you test positive within 14 days before your trip.
- Costs if you test positive or have to isolate during your trip.

- Changes to re-entry rules affecting your return to the UK.
Can I Buy Travel Insurance with Coronavirus If I’m Already Away?
We don’t offer insurance for people who have already started their trip. It’s best to buy travel insurance as soon as you book your trip.
What Happens If I Get COVID-19 Abroad?
If you get COVID-19 abroad, we cover up to £10,000,000 in emergency medical expenses for most policies. This includes hospital treatment if needed. If you do not need to go to the hospital but have to isolate, we cover your unused transportation costs back to the UK.
